Bayer Chesterfield Campus

Chesterfield, Missouri

DTLS has been providing ongoing services to Bayer (formerly Monsanto) for several major projects at its 201-acre Chesterfield Village Campus.  Together, these works have helped to establish a cohesive site aesthetic and coordinated use of landscape elements throughout, reinforcing a consistent campus identity.

To date, the site design work has focused on incorporating new facilities and accommodating renovations within the existing research complex. These facilities include office spaces, laboratory, greenhouse, and headhouse buildings, a parking structure, and pedestrian and vehicular circulation systems.  The in-house facilities and design staff at Bayer have been essential partners in this work, helping to coordinate between the individual building projects and their respective architectural, engineering, and construction teams.

Each design project has addressed the individual function and character of the associated building, while utilizing landscapes and outdoor spaces to knit the overall campus fabric together.  Tighter, more formal garden spaces near the buildings give way to looser, flowing masses of native species which blend with existing woodlands and prairie meadows.  Stormwater bioswales and bioretention basins are incorporated throughout, treating runoff close to its source.  A network of new pedestrian pathways improves access to the landscape, while site lighting and exterior furnishings enhance the experience.
