Forest ReLeaf Urban Nursery
St. Louis, Missouri
Forest ReLeaf of Missouri is a regional nonprofit organization focused on growing trees for community groups, individuals, municipal governments, under-resourced communities, and nonprofits in order to steward the expansion of native tree growth across Missouri. The organization’s growing and volunteer operations are currently headquartered at their 8-acre arboretum and nursery in Creve Coeur Park. To better serve the area, and to bring the benefits of trees closer to communities that need them, City Tree Farm will be located on the Scott Joplin House Historic Site in St. Louis City’s Midtown neighborhood. Forest ReLeaf anticipates that City Tree Farm will grow their tree production capacity by up to 30%.
DTLS worked with Forest Releaf and a group of consultants and stakeholders to design a concept plan for City Tree Farm, which will support the organization’s future planning, community engagement, and fundraising efforts. In addition to tree growing, potting, and distribution facilities, the concept plan for City Tree Farm includes a community pavilion, planting demonstration display areas, and a learning garden. Each element has been designed to support the project’s goals of:
Connecting residents with nature through hands-on activities and volunteering
Providing easy access to free and reduced-price trees
Demonstrating a fully functioning tree nursery operation
