Maline Greenway

Ted Jones Trail to West Florissant Avenue

Great Rivers Greenway is working with community members, the City of Ferguson, and St. Louis County to plan, design, and construct a 1.5 mile segment of the Maline Greenway from the Ted Jones Trail to West Florissant Avenue in Ferguson, Missouri.  The existing Ted Jones Trail reaches from the University of Missouri - St. Louis to the intersection of St. Louis Avenue and Short Avenue in Ferguson.  The new greenway segment will extend from there eastward along Paul Avenue and Ferguson Avenue to Forestwood Park, where it will connect with the existing park loop path and other park amenities.  The greenway segment will also pass through Lang-Royce Park before continuing on to the site of the planned West Florissant Community Park.

DTLS is part of a design team, led by HDR, tasked with the greenway’s design.  Beginning in 2018, the team worked together to prepare an Alignment Study and Concept Plan for the eastern portion of the segment, from Ferguson Avenue to West Florissant Avenue, which parallels the path of Maline Creek as it flows through southeast Ferguson in north St. Louis County.  This study evaluates potential greenway alignments, trailhead configurations, neighborhood connections, crossing strategies, and integration opportunities with adjacent development projects.  Community feedback, risk assessments, cost estimates, utility coordination, environmental impact and experiential factors were considered in determining alignment recommendations which meet established criteria for feasibility and constructability.

Detailed design for the entire segment is scheduled to be completed in early 2023, with construction expected to begin mid-year.  When completed, the greenway will create an accessible multi-use path connecting residential neighborhoods, parks, industrial developments, and a busy commercial corridor.
