Guideline Development
Anchored by the historic and iconic Bevo Mill, the Bevo Neighborhood is centered around Gravois Avenue. Once a walkable streetcar corridor, Gravois has become primarily auto-oriented at the expense of pedestrian safety and business presence. The Great Streets Initiative aims to revitalize the corridor in an effort to match the neighborhood’s vibrant and diverse community.
Through a series of community workshops, stakeholder engagement sessions, tactical improvements and a four-day charrette, DTLS helped author a strategic approach to revealing the character and personality of the corridor. In order to reduce the number of vacancies in the study area, DTLS helped devise a strategy to develop under-utilized sites into neighborhood-scale parks and open spaces where the community can relax, mingle, and play.
